Due to changing circumstances, we will no longer be offering regular guided tours to the general public. We offer educational group tours by appointment only.
For those who want a guided tour dedicated to bird watching and wildlife viewing, Finca Los Monos offers some of the finest habitat on Isla Colon. The 2km trail winds through a mature garden planted amongst big native woods. Your guide will help you to identify many wonderful and unique birds. The colony of Montezuma Oropendulas and their nests is one of the highlights on your walk, keep a watch out for Toucans. The family of more than 35 Howler Monkeys are normally observed and occasionally a frisky group of white-faced capuchins make an appearance. There are two known roosts of the beautiful and rare, Western night monkey. Three toed sloths are common in the Cecropia trees (Two toeds less common) and a spectacled Caiman is normally seen close up in the pond. A keen eye is needed to spot the Iguanas high in the under-story. Rarely, a Northern tamandua can be seen nestled in one of the giant fig trees.
Tours start at 6.30am, finishing by 8.30 or 9am. Bathrooms are available. Bring water and insect repellent. Closed shoes and long pants are recommended but not necessary. Your guide provides 2 pairs of 8x42 binoculars and a guide book and app. We use playback only when needed helping to enhance your experience.
